Everything has become a reference

“We should see each others more often” -> But aren’t we seeing each other right now?

Like it feels like every in-person group meeting is mostly spent mentioning the next group meeting and insisting to see each other more often, as if always waiting for something but it’s unclear what it is

To renovate a building -> To change it so that it is hard for someone to be displeased with any aspect of it, with little thought to its actual purpose

Like, I mean things like youth centres or party rooms being renovated to be modern and immaculate and kind of sterile. There is of course sometimes a need to renovate but, I guess, more often than not, there is not really any problem with it from the perspective of the people actually using these rooms. This changes how you behave inside, when something is clean, new and brightly lit etc it’s just not the right setting to be relaxed, have fun etc

Earning money -> Compensating for something

Learning -> Being tested on

Complaining about something -> Wanting an advantage

Like online reviews being used to get refunds etc

Receiving information about something -> Receiving confirmation of existing thoughts about something

Volunteering -> getting away from people who don’t

Reporting the news -> reporting what gets reach/clicks
